After a period of some 16-17 years I decided to fish out a few stacks featuring phonetic sounds for both
"British" English and American English that I wrote in about 2002 and re-jig them for some University
students of my wife's.
The original sound files have got mislaid (well, not really; currently residing on a Macintosh
Performa 5220CD in the attic of my house in Scotland: it might be 'fun' getting those files off
there: SCSI port to ZIP drive: SCSI PCI card in machine running Xubuntu 32-bit: USB port to
flash drive) . . .
BUT they are embedded as .AIFF files in the original stacks . . .
Standalones were deployed to macOS 9 and macOS 10.1, and Windows 2000.
I should like to deploy them to Linux, Windows 7,8 & 10, and macOS 10.7 - 11.1.
So: does THIS work?

Re: Basic Question about sound
hmm..dumb answer : why not test it on Linux to see if they play ?
most of all format playing on apple should play on Linux, I guess Linux supports more formats "of most everything" made for other OS , Windows, Mac..
if not :
