where is the I in AI and what exactly is it for?
One day our descendents may work that out, if they, unlike most of us, stop being all starry-eyed and/or scared stiff about "A.I.".

But, as people have been starry-eyed about Kings, Queens and Gurus with blatantly obvious feet of clay forever; I'm not holding my breath.

Whenever I hear someone refer to the anthropomorphic "AI" I'm put in mind of Richard Brautigan's wonderfully ironic "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace".

I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.

I like to think
(right now please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.

Mark.

You are an idealist.

Most of the world's problems derive from the fact that, though almost all people are fairly decent, the ones who are not continue to make startling headlines. One cannot have nirvana until human beings are perfect. That ain't happening ever.

Do we think our machines, essentially new types of people, will be perfect?

Craig, scholars are divided over whether Brautigan was being hopeful or cynical there. I've read most of his works and I'd say that piece works either way, and possibly both. :)

It certainly looks like a leg-pull to me, as it conjures up an image of people down on their hands and knees cropping grass with the cows.

Is there somewhere where LC are reporting on the progress of Xavvi?

Most in-development news is shared in their blog. I would imagine they'd continue this with new products.

What would you like to know? They're working on it, but it's a big project and will take some time.

I, personally, am not that interested in Xavvi.

But a large part of my lack of interest is that I a still not sure exactly WHAT it will do in terms of enhancing LiveCode development.

A roadmap, with, let's say, monthly reports on what can be done (with, possibly, either code snippets or demo video clips),
might make quite a few people (including myself) stop feeling that there was a fund raiser and then there was no sign that anything was going on.

It might stimulate interest in types like myself who wonder what, exactly, Xavvi is supposed to be, supposed to be, and why we should
pay money for it.

Kudos to the LC Ltd. people for mentioning that OpenXTalk exists in their latest funding drive for this latest endeavor.
I would however point out that, while the focus has been on continuing on from the LC Community Edition, that is NOT the purpose of OpenXTalk.org (more of a spark). The mission IS Open-Source + xTalk scripting, that's NOT limited to the LCC Engine(s). There are still several alternative xTalk interpreters that are not based on LCC at all.

I did not see any mention of a free version of Xavvi.

Micro$oft has apparently decided how much CoPilot will cost.

Seems a bit premature, since they don't yet know what CoPilot will cost them:

I just read that Xavvi will be called LiveCode Create. I'm glad! The name LiveCode has stuck, someone in marketing must have talked some sense into the "X-vvi" fans. I am relieved, conceptually LiveCode remains the center, starting from that you "create."
A student of mine said long ago that instead of Xavvi the ai of Livecode could simply be called LaiveCode too!

Me too. This opens the door to a more cohesive marketing than would be likely with bifurcated branding.

And now, everything depends on marketing. The days of low-hanging fruit of HC refugees are long gone. Few companies can enjoy the bump MC/LC got from HC's demise. But that was a long time ago. These days they're on the same footing as every other company. Time to market like other companies.
