LiveCode 6.1 Released
Dear Forum Members,
LiveCode 6.1 has been launched today and brings with it some exciting updates. We have listened to the feedback and 6.1 brings with it optional licence activation.
Another exciting feature in this release is the new “chained” behaviors. Behaviors help developers to put more structure into their code and avoid repetition. Less repetition = faster coding and fewer opportunities for error!
LiveCode 6.1 includes 15 new features of which 7 were user contributed - go you! We're very impressed here at RunRev at how you guys have got stuck in and started work on the engine, even before it has been modularised and tamed.
Features include:
• Chained Behavior - sophisticated OOP-like programming
• iOS Remote Control Support - eg control audio and video playback via a headset
• Activation removed in Community edition - allows easy fast installation
• Locking Group Updates - speeds up custom controls composed of many objects
• Getting the Page Ranges of a Field
• Improved properties Property - list all the built in attributes of the object you are working with
• Additional statistical functions
Thanks for making LiveCode Better!

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
Just a thought but it would really be a good idea to list all 15, and a link to the change log...or is that too simple

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
I don't think it was Heather's intention to replicate the change log. Her highlights are helpful, but as with each version you'll find complete details in Help->Release Notes.

When will a new Server engine be available?

It looks like there's a current version on the server, but the links from the pages just haven't been added yet:edgore wrote:When will a new Server engine be available?

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
Thanks Richard! I'll give it a shot!
Edit: Is there any difference between the commercial and community version of the server? I can't imagine that there would be. Hopefully renaming the executable to livecode-server (to avoid having to edit apache config files) won't cause a problem....

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
I'm not quite sure where to post this inquiry: Upon opening LC 5.5 for the first time in a while, I received notice that there was an update available. I accepted the update and it was downloaded and installed. I see that my commercial license activation was not used in the installation of v6.1. Instead, the version now installed appears to be the community edition. I understand my commercial license is still valid at this time. Sorry if this is purely an individual issue, but if this is the way all future updates will function for all those holding commercial licenses, I can't imagine that I'm the only one for whom it is a surprise. Perhaps there is a FAQ list or announcement which I happen to have missed? (Heather, if this is just a individual licensing issue, please answer me by email- thanks!)

Hi Kurt,
since the RunRev staff does not read here in the forum on a regular base,
I would suggest to send your question directly to: support@runrev.com

Ben tells me that they'll be adding PDF downloads to their site soon, presumably at the same page the links in the Help menu point to.MaxV wrote:Where is the PDF guide? Is it missing?

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
Apparently I was mistaken: while the "User Guide" menu item is no long present in the Help menu, the PDF of the User Guide is still installed - it can be accessed in the Resources window (click "Resources" in the toolbar).

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
Are there release notes/change logs available for the 6.1 server release ? Either community or commercial, I don't think it matters for my purposes. I looked around and I can't find any anywhere for server.
I am curious to see whether or not include has been changed to be relative (so that the location of the file containing the include is always used as the base location for looking for any includes called from the file). The previous implementation used the location of the first script executed as the base location, which was identified as a bug, and was supposed to be fixed, but I still seem to be having some issues, so I want to see if it was actually rolled into the 6.1 Windows Server release.

Re: LiveCode 6.1 Released
I'm using 5.5. Where can I update to 6?
