How long does copyright on software last for?

Depends on the jurisdiction. If memory serves, in the States copyright protections last the life of the author plus 70 years.

When I was 10 (in 1972) our schoolteacher piously informed us that when we were about 35flying cars
we'd all be moving around in flying cars . . . 24 years after I was 35 I am still waiting . . .
Needless to say, there is a unit churning out the same utter crap in one of the EFL books I use.
