Linux PPC build?

Re: Linux PPC build?
Richmond,
It looks like that error happened after you built the engine - it couldn't find the IDE stacks so could not start. The good news is that you don't have to start it; the files you need should already have been generated.
There is an environment variable you need to set to tell it where to find the IDE (because when running it from the build directory it isn't "installed") - I'll look it up and get back to you but I think it is REV_TOOLS_PATH.

Re: Linux PPC build?
I worked that out at about 3 in the morning, when my brain woke me up with an "Aah" moment.
But as I am teaching from 8 to 6.30 today (currently in my lunch break) there's not much
to be done till this evening.

Re: Linux PPC build?
I'd be interested to hear how you get on - I've been trying myself but I can't coax a working install out of UbuntuPPC on my G5 PowerMac - the installer either throws a wobbly or the yaboot bootloader refuses to load. I suspect it has something to do with the existing (somewhat messed-up) partitioning scheme. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and wipe the drive and start again...

Re: Linux PPC build?
I stopped using my MacMini a couple of years ago; so, tonight I shall back up any content on it, just incase, and then devote the whole machine to Xubuntu PPC.

Re: Linux PPC build?
So, here I am on Saturday night getting off on the wrong foot again, installing Ubuntu PPC with the full-blown "yuck" interface on my MacMini with a 1.25 GHz processor and 256 MB RAM.
It took me donkey's ages just to open the Terminal.
Anyway, here's a photo of that and the Terminal installing the LKDE desktop
sudo apt-get install lxde
Let's hope the blasted thing functions.
Considering Mac OS 10.4.11 is, like all Mac OS 10 versions, heavy on the eye-candy, I am surprised GNOME was so glacial.

Re: Linux PPC build?
Um . . . a bad case of bloatware there.
Had to do a hard boot after LXDE was installed: that means I turned the MacMini off physically and rebooted.

Re: Linux PPC build?
Well, at least that's a start.
Now to try and get Synaptic to install the required libraries:
* make
* gcc
* g++
* libX11-dev
* libXext-dev
* libXrender-dev
* libXft-dev
* libXinerama-dev
* libXv-dev
* libXcursor-dev
* libfreetype6-dev
* libgtk2.0-dev
* libpopt-dev
* libesd0-dev
* liblcms-dev

Re: Linux PPC build?
Sorry; just had a supper pause (cheese, salad, new bread, white wine).
Before that I installed GIT:
and did the clone:
which is all very charming if you get a thrill about a return to pre-GUI days.
Doesn't do a lot for me, frankly.

Re: Linux PPC build?
"Oh Fizz" *, you don't exactly get much installed from the Ubuntu PPC alternate CD; here I am installing Synaptic.
* "Oh Fizz" is a substitute, inspired by the novels of Henty and Brazil, for a fairly coarse expletive.

Re: Linux PPC build?
Just copied the bits of code from the build I made earlier [OK, OK, people from the British Isles need to think of
Lesley Judd on 'Blue Peter' about 1973] on my Intel box, into the right places (I hope) in the 'livecode' directory inside my 'home' directory.
Wow! Look at those hairstyles!

Re: Linux PPC build?
Here I am, back over on the INTEL cooker again as Synaptic + Firefox froze the MacMini, so I've had to go for a hard reboot again.

Re: Linux PPC build?
Owing to Synaptic's RAM-hungry nature I have opted to install all those files using the Terminal; it is clear, that, unlike UbuntuStudio 13.10, Ubuntu 12.04 does not come with the vast majority of those files preinstalled.
I wonder if a compiled Livecode Linux PPC version will run on a Linux install without those prerequisites [i.e. are they only necessary to build the thing in the first place?]
and
will Linux PPC standalones be able to run on Linux PPC systems without end users having to install those files?

Re: Linux PPC build?
I await guidance from Fraser and Mark.
As you will be able to see it states that the build instructions are confusing: something to do with Lilliput and Blefescu.
Needless-to-say, I have ALWAYS opened my boiled eggs at the pointy end!

Re: Linux PPC build?
Those
/usr/include pathways make me feel a bit odd, as I don't feel very comfortable about moving those
files from their locations in the file system.
