There used to be a free version of Live Code that did not allow compilation. Is that no longer available?

That would be RevMedia 4, which was discontinued about 15+ years ago.

Thanks Richmond,
I was thinking of LC Community. That is what I began with in ~2014 when I found LC. I quickly moved to the subscription version.

The Community versions (last one being 9.6.3) are available for download, but you should be aware that if you 'burn out the bottom of your saucepan', it is your problem as those versions are no longer supported by LiveCode.
